The modern information revolution, powered by the Internet and all the devices that feed off it, has changed our lives immeasurably. Today we are constantly available via smart phones and skype. We can communicate quickly and we’re available for work almost anywhere. The communication revolution represents a stunning social change–and it’s all occurred just in the past decade or so through the rise of social media, email and portable communication devices.
Yet it’s not only talking and communicating that has changed. Today we’re also seeing major changes in our lifestyles and habits, too. One of the regular activities being revolutionized by the Internet is, yes, shopping.
Shopping for goods used to entail plenty of planning and often, a great deal of driving. Hard to find items, like vintage or designer clothing, remained “hard to find.” Today? Not so much.
The online shopping experience is a whole new one for consumers. For fashion shoppers, items that once could only be fo
und by scouring shops in far-flung shopping districts, wearing the soles of your shoes thin, now can be found with a few clicks on the keyboard.
More than anything, online shopping has made comparison shopping into an art form. Experienced shoppers who really know how to find a bargain can work the Internet to save on their favorite items by searching for the item and checking the price on every store site that offers it. Some items are now sold new on Ebay, offering another avenue for comparison shopping. Some sites offer discounts on shipping, or accept coupons for special items.
Here at Computer Central, we’ll continue to offer updates on the computer world and ways to use the Internet effectively, so keep checking in with us to learn how to be computer savvy in a very wired world.
