Comparison shopping has changed over the years from being 100 percent legwork to being relatively easy because of the Internet. Just because online comparison shopping takes less effort doesn’t mean that it is always successful. There is misinformation out there, so you have to do some research to get the type of results you want. A few simple techniques will make for a better outcome.

First of all, conduct a search for the product. You should alter your search to limit the number of results. For example, you get about 118,000,000 results for ‘sneakers’. Change it to ‘running shoes’ and you get 81,200,000 results. Be more specific -‘top men’s leather running shoes’ and you get just 4,660,000 results. Granted this is still a huge number, but it will remove those results that are too generic for your purpose.

• Watch for the technology trade shows in your area and beyond. See what electronic items are being replaced by new models and buy those being replaced.
• Purchase a television set in May/June before the new models come out in August/September.
