You have some extra cash this summer and want it to go far. What electronic items could you purchase at this time of year? The answers may not always be as specific as you think.

  • Watch for the technology trade shows in your area and beyond. See what electronic items are being replaced by new models and buy those being replaced.
  • Purchase a television set in May/June before the new models come out in August/September.
  • When an electronic item is being replaced by a new item in an electronic retail store, expect some great savings.
  • Anything that will get you a sales price as well as a rebate check is a terrific option when it comes to saving money on electronics. Check also for special coupon deals in your newspaper or mailbox.
  • Check on “buy backs” for items such as laptop computers, televisions, and other electronic items. Best Buy has such a program.
  • Get some special deals on electronics on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July weekend and Father’s Day.
  • Subscribe to websites that offer discounts throughout the year—including summer—and get the next big thing on your list at the cheapest possible price.
  • An item that will assist you on your summer vacation, like a digital camera for example, may be a bit more pricey; but summer is a great time to put that digital camera on sale when we’ll more than likely use it.

Getting the best electronic items during the summer takes as much inventiveness as it does keeping your eyes open, especially when you consider how easy it is to miss a sale when you’re out playing a round of golf.
